CBP Lists Projected ACE Milestones for 2004

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site various documents related to its development and expansion of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). The following are highlights of these documents:

Projected ACE Milestones for 2004

CBP has issued a fact sheet that lists the milestones CBP projects for ACE in 2004:

February - CBP notice invites designated brokers for participating importers to establish ACE accounts and announces the pilot testing of ACE account revenue features, including electronic periodic payments and statements similar to commercial credit card systems. February - CBP notice invites truck carriers to establish ACE accounts. (See ITT's Online Archives or 02/05/04 news, 04020510, for BP summary of CBP's notice.)

Spring - Pilot test of account revenue features no earlier than April 14, 2004

Spring - Prototypes of new border security technology tested, including Knowledge Based Risk Management (KBRM), which analyzes patterns of account activities, and the Intelligent Information Factory (IIF), which provides more comprehensive analysis tools to the National Targeting Center (NTC).

Summer - Pace of adding new ACE accounts expected to jump to 125 accounts per month.

July - CBP notice to invite participation of established truck carrier accounts in a pilot test for truck processing features, including Automated Truck Manifest.

Fall - Pilot test of truck processing features begins.

Fall - First participating government agency (PGA), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation, goes on-line.

Other agencies, the Federal Communications Commission, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Food and Drug Administration, International Trade Commission, Maritime Administration, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be completing integration of their operations into ACE/International Trade Data System (ITDS) design and development. An additional 25 government agencies conducting development work throughout 2004.

Fall - ACE Secure Data Portal access to be expanded on a port-by-port basis to the seven busiest land border ports.

Winter 2004 - Number of ACE users projected to reach up to 20,000.

Winter 2004 - Number of ACE accounts projected to reach up to 1,100.

Winter 2004 - Number of ACE Ambassadors projected to double to nearly 200.
