Malaysia Implements the Container Security Initiative at Port of Klang
On March 8, 2004, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a press release announcing the implementation of the Container Security Initiative (CSI) at the port of Klang, Malaysia.

The press release states that on January 20, 2003, CBP and the government of Malaysia signed a Declaration of Principles to participate in CSI. Under the terms of the declaration signed with Malaysia, CBP officers are to be stationed at the ports of Klang and Tanjung Pelepas. As part of the CSI program, CBP has deployed a team of officers to the port of Klang to work with their Malaysian counterparts to target cargo containers destined for the U.S. Officials of the Malaysian government are responsible for examining any container identified jointly with CBP officers as a potential terrorist risk.
Port of Klang is 18th CSI Port to Become Operational
According to the press release, the port of Klang is the 18th CSI port to become operational and joins the already operational CSI ports of Rotterdam, Le Havre, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Antwerp, Singapore, Yokohama, Durban, Hong Kong, Gteborg, Felixstowe, Genoa, La Spezia, Busan, Vancouver, Montreal, and Halifax.
