FDA Schedules Additional Public Meetings for Interim Final Rules on Registration of Food Facilities and Prior Notice of Imported Food Shipments

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted to its Web site information on a series of public meetings that will provide an overview of the FDA's October 10, 2003 interim final rules on the registration of food facilities and the prior notice of imported food shipments.

FDA states that it will also provide answers to some frequently asked questions regarding the applicability of these rules to various activities. In addition, FDA states that it will provide on-site registration assistance for facilities that are required to register and a computer demonstration of the Prior Notification System Interface.

On its Web site, the FDA provides a list of the U.S. meeting locations and corresponding dates and times (including the specific meeting addresses and contact telephone numbers, etc. for each location) as follows:

Denver, CO03/02/04
Fresno, CA03/04/04
El Paso, TX03/09/04
Salt Lake City, UT03/11/04
Kansas City, MO03/16/04

(According to FDA, the target audience is domestic owners, operators or agents in charge of domestic food facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food under FDA's jurisdiction for human or animal consumption in the U.S., and persons that import, or offer for import, food under FDA's jurisdiction into the U.S., etc.)

FDA states that attendees may register on-line at https://register.grad.usda.gov/conferences/fda/fda_reg_form.cfm or by fax at (202) 479-6801 at least three workdays before the particular meeting date.
