Textile and Apparel Import Statistics by Category and Country (October 2003 Major Shippers Report)

The Commerce Department's Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) has issued its Major Shippers Textiles and Apparel Report, which contains selected general import statistics by date of import from the Census Bureau through October 31, 2003 by country and category (including merged and part category).

(General import statistics represent all imports received in a given period of time, regardless of the date of export, which have been entered directly for consumption into the U.S., or entered into warehouse for temporary storage.)

This report covers all countries with statistically significant trade, whether or not subject to quota. Statistics in the report are listed by category, part-category, and merged-category, as follows:

Calendar year 2001 and 2002 imports

Year-to-date imports for 2002 and 2003 and percentage change (year-to-date is defined as imports received between March and the stated month in a given year)

Monthly year-ending 2002 and 2003 imports for current/recent months (year-ending is defined as imports received in the twelve-month period ending in the stated month)

Year-ending current month percentage change/percentage share

Type of control, if any (e.g., specific limit, consultation)

The Major Shippers Report also lists the above information for various groups of countries, including members of the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI), European Community (EC), etc.
