U.S. Customs and Border Protection for Field Operations at the Port of New York/Newark has issued an Informational Pipeline notifying the trade community that palletizing containerized rice shipments at the time of export to the U.S. will help expedite any CBP Agriculture Inspections at the Port of New York/Newark for Khapra Beetle.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the Miami International Airport has issued an Information Bulletin informing the importing community and other interested parties of a CBP informed compliance seminar that will be presented on April 17, 2012 at the Cargo Clearance Center, 6601 NW 25th Street, Miami, Florida. The Seminar will consist of two sessions and will address building stone and household glassware. CBP recommends that attendees of these sessions bring copies of the relevant pages of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule to the seminar (Chapters 25 and 68 for building stone, Chapter 70 for household glassware). This summary report highlights the most active textile and apparel tariff preference levels from U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s March 5, 2012 “Quota Weekly Commodity Status Report.” It also lists the TRQ commodities on CBP’s weekly March 5, 2012 “TRQ/TPL Threshold to Fill List.”¹

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is requesting comments by April 6, 2012 on an existing information collection on the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA) regulations. CBP proposes to extend the expiration date of this information collection with a change to the burden hours. The estimated number of responses was lowered from 10,000 to 3,000 based on revised estimates by CBP. The time per response was increased from 24 minutes to 2 hours based on public comments that CBP received. There is no change to the information being collected.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Area Port of Boston is inviting the Greater Boston International Trade Community to attend its Trade Day on April 13, 2012. This event will provide an opportunity for members of the Trade Community to meet with CBP and Participating Government Agency officials who are responsible for facilitating the importation of their goods. There is no cost to attend this event, but advance on-line registration is requested. Register for this event here. There will be no formal presentations as CBP encourages participants to bring their questions and to interact one-on-one with the regulatory professionals. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that the first 2012 West Coast Trade Symposium is scheduled for May 10, 2012 and will be held at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA (see here). Further information regarding symposium details and online registration will be available soon. Subscriptions to the live Webcast of the event will be offered. CBP notes that due to the Symposium's popularity, there will be a limit of three representatives from the same company enforced in order to enable a wide variety of companies to participate. CBP has plans for a second symposium in Washington, DC before the end of the calendar year.
