The Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection is designating an approved Native American Tribal Card issued by the Pascua Yaqui tribe to U.S. citizens as an acceptable travel document for purposes of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. The approved card may be used to denote identity and U.S. citizenship of Pascua Yaqui members entering the United States from contiguous territory or adjacent islands at land and sea ports of entry. This designation is effective June 9, 2011.

CBP officers working at the Bridge of the Americas commercial cargo facility in El Paso seized 531 pounds of marijuana in one bust on June 4. The seizure was made when a tractor-trailer hauling an empty trailer entered the cargo facility from Mexico. CBP officers and canine teams were conducting a sweep of trucks waiting in line at the international crossing when CBP drug sniffing dog alerted to the vehicle. CBP officers conducted a gamma-ray exam and identified several anomalies in the appearance of the tractor cab. The vehicle was moved to the inspection dock where CBP officers removed a total of 474 marijuana-filled bundles. The seized marijuana weighed approximately 531 pounds.
CBP has posted a revised version of its ACE 101 "Topic" document, which provides an introduction to ACE and the features currently available in the program. The revised version now includes information on the recently deployed Post Summary Correction functionality. (CBP deployed PSC functionality in ACE on June 4, 2011. CBP has posted a Post Summary Correction User Guide, which provides information on filing PSCs and the impact on ACE reports. PierPass Inc. has issued an advisory announcing that marine terminal operators at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will raise the current Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) under the West Coast MTO Agreement (WCMTOA) at the Ports to $60 per TEU in order to sustain continued operation of PierPass OffPeak gates. The TMF adjustment is effective July 4, 2011. The advisory is available by emailing documents@brokerpower.com.
CBP officers working at the Mariposa commercial facility in Nogales recently intercepted a large amount of marijuana in a commercial shipment containing watermelons. The seizure occurred when a truck driver attempted to enter the U.S. through a Mariposa commercial facility vehicle lane and was referred for a secondary inspection. Further inspection of the shipment led to the discovery of 128 packages of marijuana comingled inside the bins of watermelon. The narcotics weighed approximately 2,956 pounds with an estimated value of nearly $1.5 million dollars. The marijuana, truck and trailer were seized by CBP.
