The revised (May 2011) version of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s informed compliance publication, "What Every Member of the Trade Community Should Know About: Fasteners of Heading 7318," contains only minor changes, the most significant of which is an updated Web address for a document on fastener quality and standards. This fastener quality document, issued by the Fastener Industry Education Group and available here, discusses the importance of meeting all of the fastener quality standards when a particular grade of fastener is claimed by the markings on the fastener or the entry documentation. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a memorandum to clarify confusion surrounding the U.S.-Canada Softwood Lumber Act of 2008 (SLA) export charge rates reflected on the International Trade Administration Web page. Recently, some of the posted export charge rates were inaccurate and did not reflect the additional collections as a result of arbitration1 between the U.S. and Canada.
CBP has issued the June 2011 ACE Trade Account Owner Update, which notes that the Participating Government Agency (PGA) Message Set has been made available; Post Summary Correction (PSC) functionality was deployed on June 4 and the first PSC was successfully filed on June 14; and CBP's announcement that it would use "ckg" for all dairy items subject to the new dairy product fee assessment that CBP will begin to collect on August 1, 2011.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Louisville UPS express consignment facility recently seized a shipment of counterfeit watches with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $933,318. The shipment, imported from China, infringed upon the intellectual property rights of Armani, Cartier, Lacoste, and Breitling corporations.
