On December 1, 2010, the House Committee on Rules reported H. Res. 1745, providing for consideration of the Senate amendment to the bill (H.R. 4853) to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend the funding and expenditure authority of the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, to amend title 49, United States Code, to extend authorizations for the airport improvement program, and for other purposes, and providing for consideration of motions to suspend the rules (H. On December 1, 2010, the House passed H.J. Res. 101, to make further continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2011, by a vote of 239 yeas to 178 nays.
On December 1, 2010, the House passed the Asian Carp Prevention and Control Act (S. 1421), which was passed by the Senate on November 17, 2010. On December 1, 2010, the Senate Judiciary Committee ordered favorably reported S. 3728, a bill to amend title 17, U.S. Code, to extend protection to fashion design, with an amendment in the nature of a substitute.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus (D), House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Levin (D) and House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Camp (R) issued a statement regarding the U.S.-Korea (KORUS) FTA negotiations. In the statement, they applauded the resumption of negotiations and urged the President to stand firm in resolving the outstanding issues in the auto and beef sectors so the KORUS FTA can move forward. On November 29, 2010, the Senate Republican Caucus sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Reid (D) informing him that they will not agree to invoke cloture1 on the motion to proceed to any legislative item until the Senate has acted to fund the government and has extended the tax cuts that expire at the end of 2010. According to the letter, with little time left in the Congressional session, legislative scheduling should be focused on those priorities.
