On September 23, 2010, the Senate agreed to S. Res. 640, expressing the sense of the Senate regarding U.S. engagement with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and its member-states.

On September 21, 2010, the Senate rejected an attempt to proceed to consideration of S. 3454, the National Defense Authorization Act. Agreement was reached to continue consideration of the motion to proceed on September 22, 2010.
