On December 17, 2010, Senator Inouye (D), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued a statement regarding the withdrawal of the fiscal year 2011 Omnibus Appropriations Act in the Senate that would have provided FY 2011 appropriations for all federal government agencies. Instead, the Senate passed a short-term Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government through December 21, 2010.
On December 20, 2010, the Senate passed the Northern Border Counternarcotics Strategy Act (H.R. 4748), a bill to amend the Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 2006 to require a northern border counternarcotics strategy, after agreeing to an amendment in the nature of substitute. (The House passed its version of H.R. 4748 on July 27, 2010.)
On December 21, 2010, the House is scheduled to consider the Senate-passed stand alone food safety legislation (H.R. 2751). According to sources, Senate-passed H.R. 2751 is virtually identical to Senate-passed S. 510 (with the addition of technical changes made by H.R. 3082 that was recently passed by the House).
