Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on March 19 the following voluntary recalls of imported products:
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is extending until April 15 the period for comments on a proposal to prohibit children's toys and child care articles that contain four phthalates not currently subject to restrictions (here). CPSC in December proposed to ban toys containing Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP), Di-n-pentyl Phthalate (DPENP), Di-n-hexyl Phthalate (DHEXP) and Dicyclohexyl Phthalate (DCHP) (see 1412300018). The agency also proposed relaxing the interim prohibitions on Diisodecyl Phthalate (DIDP) and Di-n-octyl Phthalate (DNOP), while expanding the prohibition on Diisononyl Phthalate (DINP). Comments were originally due March 16.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is working with industry, child safety advocates, and standard-setting organization ASTM International to develop a “new and effective safety standard” to prevent exposure of children to single-load laundry detergent packets, it said March 17 (here). The agency is also working with “more than 20 countries around the world” to raise awareness of the dangers of detergent packets, which are poisonous but often come in colorful packaging that is attractive to children.
