The Customs Rulings Online Search System (CROSS) was updated July 21 (here) with 55 rulings, bringing the total number of searchable rulings to 187,461. The most recent ruling is dated 07/21/15.
CBP and other agencies involved at the border recently finished a week-long "table top exercise" with Canadian officials on import safety issues, said CBP in a news release (here). "The exercise focused on critical incidents involving imported products that were found to be dangerous, hazardous and volatile, and helped both countries understand how the other would respond," said CBP. Participants included the CBP Commercial Targeting and Analysis Center, Canada Border Services Agency, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, CBP said. “This is an opportunity for Canadian and U.S. border enforcement and import safety agencies to exchange ideas and develop best practices for working together to address import safety issues,” said Brenda Smith, assistant commissioner for CBP’s Office of International Trade. “This exercise not only displayed the benefit of joint agency collaboration, but also served as an opportunity to learn from our international colleagues.”

CBP at the Port of Baltimore seized 29 stolen cars so far in fiscal 2015, the agency said in a news release (here). "The vehicles were all destined to be exported from the Baltimore seaport with most of them slated to go to West African countries," said CBP. Once a car is found to be stolen, CBP works with the police to return the vehicle and prosecute the thieves, said the agency.
The country of origin for government procurement purposes of the VistA Storage Solution, a data storage system , is the U.S. said CBP in a final determination issued July 22 (here). Four of the six components are from the U.S., including NetApp Storage Array, which is of particular importance, said CBP. "As a result of the processing in the United States, based on the totality of the circumstances and assuming that four of the components actually originate in the United States as claimed, we find that the imported hardware and software components will be substantially transformed," the agency said. Therefore, the country of origin is the U.S., it said.
CBP New York/Newark released statistics in a pipeline notice showing the "cycle time measurement" of Centralized Examination Stations from April through June. The cycle times refer to the time from ocean container arrival, as transmitted via the Automated Commercial Environment, through final examination completion release date.
CBP recently seized counterfeit jewelry in Loisville, Kentucky that would be worth $562,729, the agency said in a news release (here). "This seizure was a part of daily operations for the Area Port of Cleveland and included CBP officers and an import specialist assigned to express-consignment operations in Louisville," the agency said.
CBP is extending the comments period to Aug. 21 on an existing information collection for extension applications for temporary importation bonds. CBP proposes (here) to extend the expiration date of this information collection without a change to the burden hours or information collected.
