The evening of June 11 at the National Press Club in Washington, International Trade Today copy editor Amy Fickling received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Professional Journalists D.C. Pro Chapter. The award recognized Fickling's longtime contributions as a volunteer for SPJ and as an editor in Washington. "She has succeeded as a writer and editor because she is so conscientious and detail-oriented, a quality that she exemplifies in her current position as an editor with Warren Communications News," Maurine Beasley, professor emerita at the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism, told the audience. Fickling said that to "seek truth and report it" is the takeaway of SPJ's Code of Ethics. Currently SPJ DC treasurer and newsletter editor, she has served in every board position in the group.
