Hogan Lovells hired Anne Salladin, previously special counsel at Stroock & Stroock, as a partner in the firm's international trade practice, it said in a news release. "Salladin will advise clients on issues relating to international business and national security, particularly as they relate to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS)," Hogan Lovells said. Salladin was senior counsel in the Treasury Department's Office of Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs, "which provides legal advice to the Secretary of the Treasury as Chairperson of CFIUS," before joining the private sector, the law firm said.
The Permanent Technical Committee of the World Customs Organization unanimously re-elected Ian Saunders, assistant commissioner of International Affairs at CBP, as chairperson of the PTC, the WCO said in a news release. Gordana Vidanovic of Serbia was re-elected as vice-chairperson.
Crowell & Moring has hired partners Nicole Simonian and Evan Yee-Fan Chuck, and counsel Jackson Pai, in the firm's Los Angeles office, and senior counsel Robert Clifton Burns is joining the Washington, D.C., office. The firm is also launching an office in Shanghai with seven trade, transactions and tax professionals. The lawyers were formerly with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.
The Association for Accessible Medicines hired Jonathan Kimball, previously managing director-healthcare policy at the public relations firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe, AAM said in a news release. Kimball joins as vice president, trade and international affairs, it said. Kimball also worked in the Commerce Department's International Trade Administration through 2007.
Elizabeth Schmelzinger, who oversaw the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism programs at CBP’s Office of Field Operations, has retired, a CBP spokesman said. The agenda for the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee meeting on Feb. 27 lists Manny Garza as "Director, Office of Field Operations, CTPAT."
Kimberly Glas was named the new president and CEO of The National Council of Textile Organizations, NCTO announced Feb. 13. Glas replaces former CEO Auggie D. Tantillo, who announced his retirement this year (see 1902040018). Glas will start April 29, NCTO said. She was a deputy assistant secretary for textiles at Commerce in the Obama administration, and most recently was executive director of the BlueGreen Alliance.
McGinnis Lochridge expanded its international trade practice with the addition of the Joiner Law Firm's two lawyers, McGinnis Lochridge said in a news release. Jamie Joiner will join as special counsel and Lindsey Roskopf will be an associate in the firm's Houston office, it said. Joiner will be working to enhance the firm's role in supply chain security, said Martin Lutz, who chairs the international trade practice group. “Clients are increasingly held responsible when their foreign subsidiaries or suppliers fail to meet appropriate legal standards, particularly in the areas of labor regulation,” Lutz said. “We want our international practice to be at the very forefront of assisting clients in meeting their obligations in this area, and Jamie is going to be taking the lead on that effort.”
Rock Trade Law will add Michael Hodes, Thomas Keating and Lawrence Pilon as trade counsel as of March 1, Rock said in a news release. Those lawyers previously made up the Hodes Keating & Pilon law firm. Rock will also add Sara Arami as an associate, it said. "These new attorneys will provide additional veteran expertise and allow us to more effectively service our clients," the firm said. "We also look forward to servicing existing HKP clients with our expanded portfolio of trade services and managed compliance programs."
C.H. Robinson named Robert Biesterfeld its new chief executive officer, the company said in a Feb. 11 press release. Biesterfeld had been chief operating officer since March 2018. Current chairman and CEO John Wiehoff will remain chairman of the board after the succession, which will take place May 9, C.H. Robinson said.
Comstock & Theakston and C.J. Holt & Co. appointed Margo VanHeusden its new president, the companies said in a press release. VanHeusden, who is the fourth generation of her family to manage the companies, succeeds Dave Simcox, who has been the president since 1975. Simcox will remain with the companies as CEO, according to the release.
