The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) will hold a webinar on September 8, 2010 to help companies to prepare successful REACH-IT dossiers. Participants will learn how to be more effective when working with REACH IT, in particular how to pass the ‘business rules.’ Advice will be given on how to successfully register by using examples of common mistakes and how these can be avoided. The webinar is open to all registrants, is free of charge and on a first come first served basis. The deadline for registration is September 6, 2010. A recording of the webinar will be viewable on ECHA’s website after the event.
In the August 24, 2010 edition of the Official Journal of the European Union, the following trade-related notices were posted:
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) states that at its 2010 Doha meeting, the Parties agreed to report on a number of subjects for discussion at the 19th and 25th meetings of the Plants or Animals Committees, scheduled for April 18-21, 2011 and July 18-22, 2011, respectively. These subjects include sharks, sturgeons, orchids, wood essential oil, etc. CITES would like reports to be submitted by January 15, 2011 for these meetings.
The World Trade Organization has posted three status reports from the U.S. regarding its use of zeroing in antidumping and countervailing duty calculations in the following disputes: (1) U.S. - Continued Existence and Application of Zeroing Methodology (DS350); (2) U.S. - Laws, Regulations and Methodology for Calculating Dumping Margins (DS294); and (3) U.S. - Measures Relating to Zeroing and Sunset Reviews (DS322). The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea reports that trade ministers from South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will hold a two-day meeting in Vietnam to discuss how to better implement their free trade accord during the week of August 25, 2010.
According to the Russian International News Agency (RIA Novosti), the Russian Chief Sanitary Inspector for Russia announced that it may ban U.S. poultry imports after half a billion U.S. eggs were recently recalled amid a salmonella outbreak.

China's Ministry of Commerce issued a brief overview of its import & export statistics on August 23, 2010. In the first 7 months of 2010, the total value of China’s import and export amounted to US$1617.05 billion, up by 40.9% year on year, among which, the export value rose by 35.6% to US$850.49 billion while the import value rose by 47.2% to US$766.56 billion. In July, the total value of China’s exports and imports reached US$262.31 billion, by 30.8% year on year. The export value rose by 38.1% to US$145.52 billion while the import value rose by 22.7% to US$116.79 billion.
