Peru and five Central American countries recently finished their first round of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, agreeing to reinforce their commercial ties.
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry reports that leaders from Japan and Peru have officially concluded the negotiations on the Japan-Peru Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which began in May 2009. The conclusion of the EPA will drive the liberalization and facilitation of trade, promotion of investments, and development of systems in related fields, resulting in increased business opportunities, enhanced bilateral economic relations, and overall deeper ties between the two countries.
According to China's State Council and the Central Military Commission, part of China's low-altitude airspace will be opened to promote the country's general aviation sector, including the purchase and use of private planes. The reform will be piloted in some areas in 2011 and gradually extended to other parts of the country.
China's Ministry of Commerce reports that Premier Wen Jiabao called on Chinese authorities to step up their fight against intellectual property rights infringements. He also discussed the State Council's recently released action plan to crack down on IPR infringement and counterfeit products as part of a six month national campaign that began at the end of October.
G20 leaders have issued a declaration and other documents from their November 11-12, 2010 summit in Seoul, Korea. Among other things, the leaders agreed to move toward more market determined exchange rate systems, refrain from competitive devaluation of currencies, bring the World Trade Organization Doha Round to a close in 2011, continue work to tackle corruption, phase-out fossil fuel subsidies, foster job creation, etc.
The World Trade Organization announces that Director-General Pascal Lamy, in opening the 21st Geneva Week for WTO non-resident members and observers, said that the G20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ meetings have “provided a clear signal that they expect the Doha Development Round to be a deliverable next year.” He said that: “Discussions between leaders on this topic were to the point: how to supplement what is already on the table with new give and take in order to build a final package that they would take to their respective Parliaments. The challenge is now to translate this political will into negotiations here in Geneva.”
The Chinese mainland announced that it will extend antidumping measures for another five years on ethanolamine imported from Japan, Malaysia, the U.S. and Taiwan from November 14, 2010. The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement that it levies tariffs ranging from 9% to 74% on ethanolamine imported from those places.
