The National Institute for Standards and Technology will hold the 97th Annual Meeting of the National Conference on Weights and Measures July 15 -- 19 in Portland, Maine. The meetings are open to the public, but a paid registration is required. Topics to be discussed include, among other things, methods of sale for ink and toner cartridges, kerosene, and motor oil, electronic livestock carcass evaluation systems, liquid measuring devices, grain hopper sales, and belt-conveyor scale systems. The deadline for comments on the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s proposal to amend the rules on standards of identity for distilled spirits to include "Cachaça" as a type of rum and as a distinctive product of Brazil was extended to July 9, 2012, it said in a Federal Register notice.
Businesses and researchers from the Pacific Northwest will gather at a two-day conference at the end of July to learn about the latest in U.S. export control laws and regulations, said Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. The event, titled "Export Controls: Awareness and Application" and presented by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Commercial Service's Seattle Export Assistance Center, Microsoft Corporation, and the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, will be held at the Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond, July 31 to Aug. 1, ICE said. The conference covers the basics of U.S. export laws and regulations and the latest legal updates. Presenters from private industry and government will discuss best practices and present case studies in export compliance.
In a challenge of an International Trade Administration ruling that Chinese off-road tire manufacturer OTR Wheel Engineering, Inc.’s tires are within the scope of the antidumping and countervailing duty orders on certain new pneumatic off-the-road tires from China (A-570-912 / C-570-913), the Court of International Trade remanded the issue to the ITA to complete a full scope inquiry.
