The Consumer Product Safety Commission is withdrawing a recently-issued regulation exempting toys made from unfinished and untreated wood from requirements for third-party testing for heavy elements (here). The commission said its direct final rule on the subject, issued in July (see 1507160022), received “significant adverse comment.” CPSC will now issue a proposed rule to address those comments, but will not seek further input. The Toy Industry Association said in July that the now-defunct regulation did not go far enough to reduce third-party testing burdens, given that so few toys are made of unfinished and untreated wood (see 1507210068).
