CBP Touts Growth in Imports, CEEs in 2012 Import Trade Trends Report

CBP said "we can feel very optimistic about the future of U.S. trade," based on the results of fiscal year 2012, it said in its annual Import Trade Trends report for the year (here). CBP also recently posted the same reports for FY 2011 (here) and FY 2010 (here).

The report said the value of U.S. imports reached an all-time high in 2012 for the second consecutive year, with CBP processing goods valued at nearly $2.4 trillion, and collecting a record $39.4 billion revenue, a 6 percent increase over fiscal year 2011.

CBP also touted its own efforts, noting it piloted and officially launched four Centers of Excellence and Expertise during fiscal year 2012. "These virtual centers allow CBP to proactively monitor and analyze the flow of goods into the United States with increased speed and are at the heart of CBP's 'Trade Transformation' efforts," it said. It also said it expects to have 10 centers operational by the end of FY 2013, "all built in close consultation with the trade community to support one of the world's most efficient commercial port-of-entry operations."
