BIS Hearing on Request for Export Monitoring & Controls on Materials Containing Copper

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice announcing that a public hearing will begin on May 19, 2004 (and may continue on May 20, 2004) in Washington, DC regarding a petition it received requesting the imposition of monitoring and export controls on copper scrap and copper-alloy scrap.

BIS Received Petition Requesting Export Monitoring and Controls

According to BIS, on April 7, 2004, a petition was filed requesting that the Department of Commerce (DOC) impose monitoring and controls on exports of recyclable metallic materials containing copper pursuant to the short supply provisions of Section 7(c) of the Export Administration Act (EAA) and Section 754.7 of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

BIS has previously stated that the commodities to be considered in this proceeding, identified by Schedule B number, are 7404.00.0020, 7404.00.0045, 7404.00.0062, and 7404.00.0080.
